American Association Game Recaps

Published on May 15, 2011 under American Association (AA) News Release

Lincoln 7, Shreveport-Bossier 4

Lincoln used a big fifth inning to build a lead that Shreveport-Bossier couldn't overcome. The Saltdogs shelled Aaron Cunningham for seven runs in just 4.1 innings. Shreveport-Bossier only allowed two hits and no runs in the final four innings, but the pitching tandem of John James and Garrett Sherrill fanned nine batters and didn't let the Captains claw back into the game. 2B Uriak Marquez went 2-4 with his second home run of the season in a losing effort.

Amarillo 8, Wichita 7

Amarillo entered the bottom of the ninth inning trailing 7-4, but a Tim Alberts walk-off triple gave the Sox a last-minute win. Alberts' knock to center field sent Lee Cruz, Benji Johnson and Chris Nash across home plate for the decisive runs. It was a disappointing end for a Wichita team that registered 14 hits, but left eight runners on base. Cephas Howard picked up the loss for giving up four unearned runs in less than a full inning of work. Ryan Patterson was 3-5 with two doubles and a triple, as well as two RBIs, for Wichita.

Grand Prairie 5, Gary SouthShore 4

Grand Prairie didn't play well the whole game, but five third-inning runs were enough to hold off Gary SouthShore. Cesar Nicolas hit a three-run home run to fuel the bats of the AirHogs in the big inning. Jon Hunton closed the game for Grand Prairie by striking out the side in the top of the ninth and eliminating any chance of a Gary SouthShore comeback. Grand Prairie committed three errors, but the RailCats left nine runners on base and couldn't capitalize when they needed to. 2B David Espinosa went 3-4 in the winning effort.

El Paso 11, Kansas City 5

Arnoldo Ponce went 3-5 with a triple and two RBIs to help fire an El Paso offensive explosion at the mercy of Kansas City. El Paso totaled 18 hits and only allowed Kansas City to get seven hits to win this game. Pitcher Josh Blanco struck out seven hitters for the Diablos, but also allowed four runs and only lasted three innings, yet he still picked up the win. Reid Santos got the loss for Kansas City by giving up nine runs on 12 hits. 3B Johan Garcia went 2-4 and stole two bases for El Paso.
