Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

GARY, Ind. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats have agreed to send INF Louis Ott the Winnipeg Goldeyes in exchange for cash considerations and a player to be named later, it was announced today.

Ott, 26, was a key member of a RailCats team that advanced to a sixth consecutive playoff berth in 2010. The versatile Ott played a number different positions last season with starts at every infield position including catcher and three innings on the mound, all while producing at the plate en route to a .301 batting average with six homers and 53 RBI. With the loss of third baseman Amos Ramon for the season, Ott will have an opportunity to be the every day starter at the hot corner.

"This was an extremely difficult move to make, not only because Lou is a very talented player, but also because he was a great RailCat who was well-liked in the clubhouse and very popular amongst the fans," Manager Greg Tagert said. "This is a great opportunity for Lou and creates flexibility for our club now and benefits us in the future as well."

The RailCats have also activated INF Brian Kolb from the inactive list to reach the 23 man roster limit.

Opening Night 2011 is this Friday, May 20 at 7:10 p.m. at beautiful U. S. Steel Yard when the RailCats will take on the rival Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Tickets are on sale now by visiting www.railcatsbaseball.com, stopping by the U. S. Steel Yard Box Office or by calling the RailCats at 219.882.2255.
