Iowa Cubs News Release

DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (22-13) dropped their first game of the series to the Toledo Mud Hens (19-18) by a score of 4-1, Saturday at Principal Park.

Toledo scored in each of the first two innings on RBI singles from Steele Walker and Justyn-Henry Malloy to go up 2-0. Iowa got a run of their own in the third on an RBI single from Darius Hill to cut their deficit in half.

Neither team scored for the next three frames, as the game stayed 2-1 until the seventh. Austin Bergner spun four scoreless innings for Toledo, striking out eight batters along the way.

Malloy grew Toledo's lead back to two in the seventh with a solo home run and Andre Lipcius drove in a fourth run for the Mud Hens in the eighth, giving them a 4-1 lead.

Iowa brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth, but Miguel Diaz earned his sixth save of the year, recording the final six outs of the game. Iowa's run in the third is all they would score, as Toledo's pitching staff limited them to just one run on three total hits.

POSTGAME NOTES:

Iowa's four-game winning streak came to an end with tonight's loss, tying their season-long streak.
