Buffalo Bisons News Release

The Wings fell to the Plates in extra-innings Saturday night from Coca-Cola Field by a final score of 6-2. Buffalo came back from two runs down to tie the game in the ninth, but Rochester scored four runs in the top of the 10th inning to seal the win.

Wynston Sawyer started the 10th on second base and advanced to third on a passed ball with no outs. Rochester loaded the bases on two walks and Nick Gordon hit a ball past the drawn-in Wings infield to bring home two runs on a single. Then, a throwing error allowed LaMonte Wade and Gordon to also score on the play. This gave the Plates a 6-2 lead.

With one out in the ninth and the Wings down by two runs, Rowdy Tellez walloped a 1-1 offering from Rochester reliever Alan Busenitz to tie the game at two runs apiece on a two-run home run.

The Wings were held hitless in the game until the sixth when Steve Pearce laced an opposite-field line drive to right. He is with Buffalo on a rehab assignment recovering from a strained oblique. Pearce finished the game going 1-3 with a walk.

"I wanted to see a lot of pitches today," Pearce said after the game. "I had a plan [and] I was able to stick to it. It was a good day."

Wings' starter Chris Rowley threw six innings. He allowed just three hits, one run and struck out two batters.

The game featured several outstanding defensive plays from both sides. One of the best came in the ninth when Jason Leblebijian made a sensational grab to rob Willians Astudillo of a base hit. Leblebijian reacted quickly and snagged the ball on a leap as Astudillo ripped a line drive to the hot corner.

The Wings and Plates will play the final game of the series Sunday on Father's Day. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m.
