Hens Defeat Bats in Front of Sellout Crowd

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo Mud Hens defeated the Louisville Bats 7-4 behind a strong offensive performance on Saturday night in front of a sold-out crowd at Fifth Third Field.

Six Mud Hens (40-27) players scored a run and four players accounted for the seven RBI in the win over the Bats (24-40).

Mikie Mahtook led off the game for the Mud Hens with a triple to right-center field. Mike Gerber was then hit by a pitch on a 2-2 count. Christin Stewart hit a sacrifice fly to deep right field that scored Mahtook.

In the third inning, Mahtook led off by drawing a walk. Gerber then hit a single advancing Mahtook to third. Gerber picked up second base on a wild pitch. Stewart then hit a ball to deep center field for a two RBI triple. Dawel Lugo then hit a double to the left center field gap to score Stewart. Toledo lead 4-0 after three innings.

Mud Hens starter Jacob Turner's night came to an end after four and one third innings. Turner allowed one earned run on three hits and one walk while striking out five Bats batters. Kevin Comer came on in relief for Toledo.

With two runners on, Nick Senzel barreled up a pitch and put it over the left field wall with one out in the fifth inning for Louisville. This made the score 4-3, still in favor of Toledo.

With two outs in the fifth inning, Edwin Espinal launched a solo shot to left field, his fifth of the year. Jason Krizan then reached first on a walk. Jarrod Saltalamacchia then blasted a ball onto Monroe Street to give then Hens a 7-3 lead. This marked Saltalamacchia's second home run of the campaign.

Zac Houston came on in relief in the sixth inning. Comer's night ended by allowing two earned runs on one hit in two thirds of an inning. Comer also walked one batter.

Louisville threatened to score in the sixth with the bases loaded, but Houston got out of the jam without allowing a run. Houston delivered one scoreless inning allowing one run and two walks while striking out one. Victor Alcantara came in to pitch the seventh for the Hens. Alcantara threw one inning in relief and allowed two hits and no runs and recorded three strike outs, earning his fourth win of the season.

Kevin Chapman came in to throw the eighth inning for Toledo and allowed one unearned run on two hits and struck out three batters.

To close the game, Johnny Barbato got the call out of the pen in the ninth inning. He took down the side and earned his sixth save of the campaign.

The Mud Hens will play the final game of the of the homestand against the Louisville Bats tomorrow. Bring your dad to the ballpark for Father's Day with first pitch coming at 6:05 p.m.

- Tonight's crowd of 10,800 marked the ninth sell-out of the season and the 472nd in Fifth Third Field history.
