San Antonio Missions News Release
SAN ANTONIO - Thanks to a terrific outing from Aaron Wilkerson, the San Antonio Missions evened up the series with Omaha with a 3-0 victory. Wilkerson pitched seven shutout innings, allowing one hit and striking out six.
Wilkerson's 0.32 ERA in the month of May is the lowest by a Missions pitcher in a single month since 2005. He allowed one earned run over 28 innings in five starts in the month of May. His seven-inning performance was the longest outing by any Missions starter in 2019.
He is currently on a 13.2 scoreless inning stretch. With the win, he improves to 4-0 on the season and his ERA improves to 0.46.
The Missions drew first blood in the bottom of the first inning off the bat of David Freitas. With Travis Shaw on second base, Freitas singled him in for his 19th RBI since joining the Missions.
The game remained 1-0 Missions until the bottom of the sixth. Shaw scored for the second time tonight after Nate Orf singled to left field.
Shaw added to his stellar night with a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning. This was first home run and RBI since joining San Antonio. He scored all three runs tonight for the Missions. Shaw reached base in all four at-bats, going 3-for-3 with a walk.
Donnie Hart replaced Wilkerson for the top of the eighth inning and sat down the first two batters before allowing a bunt single to Brett Phillips. Right-hander Jacob Barnes relieved Hart following the single. He allowed a single but retired the following batter. Angel Perdomo locked down his first save in two chances with the Missions.
For Omaha, they used Jake Staumont as an opener for tonight's game. Staumont pitched two innings, allowing one run on two hits. Jake Kalish then took over in the third inning and pitched 4.1 innings, allowing one earned run on six hits and striking out five batters. Jake Newberry relieved Kalish in the seventh inning and Ben Lively allowed the solo home run to Shaw in his one inning pitched.
The Missions and Storm Chasers continue their four-game series Saturday night at Nelson Wolff Stadium. Right-hander Burch Smith gets the start for San Antonio. Right-hander Heath Fillmyer will start for Omaha. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
