Louisiana IceGators News Release

Lafayette, LA – Blueline Hockey USA Inc. announced Thursday that Jim Wiley has been named vice president and general manager of the Louisiana IceGators. Wiley will oversee the day-to-day business operations for the ECHL team, effective immediately.

"Jim brings a great deal of experience and knowledge of the hockey business to the IceGators," said ECHL Commissioner Brian McKenna. "His background in administration and understanding of the industry make him an ideal candidate to oversee the operation and represent Blueline's interests in Lafayette."

Blueline Hockey USA Inc., a corporation owned in part by ECHL Properties, LLC., has been appointed by the ECHL Board of Governors to operate Louisiana for the remainder of the season.

Wiley was awarded his master's degree in athletic administration from the University of Tulsa and his bachelor's degree in psychology and history from Lake Superior State University where he was on the dean's list for four years.

He served as general manager, director of hockey operations and head coach for Lexington of the ECHL in 2002-03.

Wiley worked with the San Jose Sharks organization for 12 years. He was named head coach of the NHL team in December of 1995 and finished with a 17-37-3 record. He was an assistant coach, a head coach and director of hockey operations in the International Hockey League with Kansas City, helping the team win the Turner Cup in 1992. Wiley was director of hockey operations and head coach for the Sharks affiliate in the American Hockey League from 1996-98 in Kentucky and was director of hockey operations and professional scout from 1998-2002, beginning with Kentucky and later with Cleveland.

Wiley played 10 professional seasons, including parts of four seasons in the National Hockey League with Pittsburgh and Vancouver. In 62 games in the NHL, Wiley scored 14 points (4g-10a) including 10 points (4g-6a) in 34 games for Vancouver in 1976-77.
