More Money Raised For Charity

January 20, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO — While the San Diego Gulls and their fans continue their help for the Asia Tsunami victims, both contributed to another cause – "Partying for a Purpose" – during Wednesday night's game against the Las Vegas Wranglers.

Whenever the Gulls play a Wednesday night home game, it's called a "Wacky Wednesday" and features different themes. Last Wednesday's theme was "Casino Night" and featured two live blackjack tables on the concourse. Fans, however, didn't play for real money, but instead for the charity "Partying for a Purpose." By the end of the night, some $345 was raised, all of which will benefit "Partying for a Purpose."

"Partying for a Purpose" produces special events and fundraisers for the "It's All About the Kids Foundation." They have innovative programs to enhance the lives of less fortunate children. "It's All About the Kids Foundation" and "Partying for a Purpose" are committed to the advancement of children through the joining of music, the arts and the generosity of corporations and individuals.

The Gulls also continued to station donation bins for their Tsunami Relief Fund, which will remain available for Friday and Saturday's game as well. As of Tuesday, $4,000 was raised. All the proceeds from San Diego's boxer shorts auction, which is running live on www.sandiegogulls.com, will also benefit the tsunami victims.

In other news, 50 members of the Blue Angels will be in attendance Saturday night as the Gulls host the Pensacola Ice Pilots. The Blue Angels – based in Pensacola, Flr. – are currently training in El Centro, Calif., which is about 100 miles east of San Diego.

The Blue Angels' mission is to enhance Navy and Marine Corps recruiting and to represent the naval service to the United States. A Blue Angels flight demonstration exhibits the choreographed refinements of Navy trained flying skills. It includes the graceful aerobatic maneuvers of the four-plane Diamond Formation, in concert with the fast-paced, high-performance maneuvers of its two solo pilots.

The team illustrates the pinnacle of precision flying, performing maneuvers locked as a unit in the renowned, six-jet Delta Formation. Stationed during the show season at Forrest Sherman Field, Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida, the squadron spends the winter (January through March) training pilots and new team members at Naval Air Facility El Centro, California. The Blue Angels flew at nearly 70 air shows at 34 locations in the United States and Canada during the 2004 season. Last season brought out more than 17 million spectators. Since its inception in 1946, the Blue Angels have performed for more than 381 million fans.

The Gulls close out the first half of the season with home games Friday and Saturday night. Friday, they square off with the Wranglers again and Saturday they'll host the Ice Pilots. Friday is the beginning of "Old-Time Hockey Weekend," presented by the San Diego Hall of Champions, and will feature a special pre-game ceremony with Gulls alumni. The first 6,000 fans in attendance to Saturday's contest will receive special "Old-Time-Hockey" Gulls T-shirts, also courtesy of the San Diego Hall of Champions. Both games start at 7:05 p.m.

All games can be heard live on KLSD 1360AM and www.sandiegogulls.com with Chris Ello calling the play-by-play. All home games and many road games can be viewed on the Gulls' web site, courtesy of B2 Networks. Click the B2 Networks link on the home page for a list of the upcoming telecasted games.
