South Carolina Stingrays News Release

BEAUMONT, Texas - James Sanford and Olivier Proulx registered a goal and two assists each to lead the Texas Wildcatters over the South Carolina Stingrays 6-3 before 3,086 at Ford Arena.

"We got behind early with penalty trouble," South Carolina coach Jason Fitzsimmons said. "I don't like the outcome but I like the effort that we displayed. There were more positives than negatives from this game and we look forward to the third and final game of the series tomorrow."

Texas (24-12-5, 53 points) opened the score on the power play. Wildcatters captain Brandin Cote netted his 19th goal of the season beating goalie Davis Parley at 18:06 from Alex Leavitt and Proulx.

Kevin Baker made it 2-0 for the Wildcatters at the 2:01 mark of the second period tipping home his 20th goal of the campaign on a shot from Sanford, who was making his Texas debut. Mike Madill also garnered an assist.

Just 27 seconds later, Texas went up 2-0 as Proulx extended his goal-scoring streak to four games by scoring his 18th tally of the year from Sanford and Baker.

Matt Reid got South Carolina (22-16-3, 47 points) on the scoreboard by notching his team-leading 17th marker of the season at 6:58 from Stephen Werner.

Alex Leavitt regained the three-goal lead for Texas by potting his sixth of the year at 8:55 of the middle period. Helpers went to Daniel Sparre and Proulx.

Stingrays cut the margin in half at 4-2 for Texas, as South Carolina forward Jarrett Konkle slapped in his fifth goal of the season from the slot. Matt Stefanishion and Brendan Bernakevitch garnered assists.

In the third, T.J. McElroy made it a one-goal game, tallying his fifth of the year on the power play from Evan Schwabe.

But Sanford capitalized on a Wildcatters 5-on-3 man advantage to put the game out of reach.

Rosa completed the scoring by sliding the puck into the empty-net in the dying seconds.

South Carolina went 1-for-8 with the man advantage, while Texas converted on 2-of-7 opportunities. Wildcatters outshot the Stingrays 41-40.
