Dayton Bombers News Release
Dayton, OH- Despite out shooting their opponents 41-17, the Dayton Bombers were defeated by the Toledo Storm 2-0 on Friday night.
The Bombers were looking to avenge a road loss to Toledo almost a week ago at the Sports Arena by making it three for three against the Storm at the Nutter Center.
Early in the first period, it was very clear what the game plan would be on this night, as the Bombers attempted to put as much pressure as possible on Toledo rookie netminder Ervins Mustukovs. Even though they out shot the Storm 12-7, Toledo managed to take the lead late in the first. Storm forwards Bruce Mulherin and Matt Zultek snuck in behind the Bombers defense to complete a two-on-one and give Toledo a 1-0 lead at the 16:19 mark, which stood through the remainder of the first period.
In the second it was all Dayton in terms of the number of chances and time spent inside the Toledo end. The Bombers received four of their eight power plays on the night, but even with the advantage, Mustukovs continued to shut the door and did so for 17 more Bomber shots in the second period. Toledo increased their lead to 2-0 on the power play at the 7:41 mark of the second when Jeff Attard pulled a backhand across the goal mouth and around Bombers starter Adam Berkhoel. The Bombers only allowed four shots on goal in the second and 11 through two periods of play, but found themselves trailing by two after 40 minutes.
Toledo did not allow the Bombers enough chances in the third and Mustukovs once again came up with big save after big save allowing the Storm to pick up the 2-0 road victory over the Bombers.
The Bombers return to the Nutter Center tomorrow night, January 27, at 7:00 p.m. to take on the Cincinnati Cyclones. All fans will receive free parking compliments of Wright Patt Credit Union.
