
Gladiators Beat Everblades in Overtime, 6-5

Jamie Milam posted two goals, including the game winner, and added an assist to help the visiting Gwinnett Gladiators past the Florida Everblades 6-5 in overtime on Friday night at the Germain Arena in Estero, Florida. Gwinnett improves to 25-12-4 on the season with the win.
Chad Painchaud broke a scoreless tie late in the first period. He capitalized on a penalty shot ripping a snapshot from the slot past Everblades netminder Craig Kowalski from the high slot at the 16:40 mark of first period for the goal. Painchaud was hauled down on a breakaway as he slipped past the Everblades defense to set up the penalty shot.
Florida tied the game at 1-1 with a shorthanded goal at the 17:55 mark of the first period. Trailing the play, Steve Czech ripped a shot past Gladiators netminder Dan Turple for the marker off a feed from Dustin Johner from the right wing side. Chris Dyment also collected an assist on the play helping finish the 3-on-2 rush for the Everblades.
On the same Gladiators' power play that Florida scored shorthanded, Gwinnett capitalized on a 5-on-3 man-advantage with a goal by Jamie Milam. Set up at the left wing point, Milam ripped a one-timer past Kowalski off a feed from Brad Schell to regain the lead for Gwinnett. Scott Mifsud had an assist on the power play goal at the 19:12 mark of the first period as he fed Schell out of the corner.
Gwinnett took a 3-1 lead on Colton Fretter's team leading 26th goal of the season as he slid down the slot and took a pass from Painchaud and beat Kowalski for the goal. Andy Contois also had an assist on the power play goal posted with just 10 seconds left in the opening stanza.
Florida got within a goal just 1:24 into the second period as Brent McDonald ripped a shot from the left wing circle that trickled past Turple for the marker. Franklin MacDonald and Brad Zancanaro collected the assists on the power play goal for the Everblades.
In his first game back in over two months, Paul Flache set up the Gladiators 4th goal of the game. Bryan Dobek posted the goal for the Gladiators as he was parked in the slot and took a pass from Flache behind the net and beat Kowalski for the goal. Brian Teixeira also had an assist on the goal at the 8:46 mark of the second period giving Gwinnett a 4-2 lead.
Blue Bennefield posted his first goal of the night to give the Gladiators a 5-2 lead at the 7:01 mark of the third period. Parked on the off wing on the power play, Bennefield jammed the puck past Kowalski for the goal. Schell and Milam hooked up for the assists on the goal for the Gladiators.
Florida rattled off the next three goals, two on a power play, to send the game to overtime. Reggie Berg cut the Gwinnett lead to two goals jamming the puck past Turple at the 11:06 mark of the third period. Chris Lee and Chris Dyment collected the assists on the 5-on-3 power play goal for the Everblades.
McDonald got the Everblades within a goal at the 12:32 mark of the third period beating Turple by redirecting the puck past the Gwinnett netminder. Zancanaro and Lee collected the assists on he power play goal for the Everblades.
Brett Peterson tied the game at five as he was able to capitalized on an out of position Turple at the 14:41 mark of the third period. Pulled out of the net on the initial shot, Peterson slid the puck past the Gladiators netminder for the goal. Damon and Brine had the assists on the tying goal for the Everblades.
Milam posted the game winner and his second goal of the game as he ripped a slapshot past Kowalski at the 1:20 mark of overtime. Fretter fed Milam at the point to set up the game-winning goal for the Gladiators. Mifsud also had an assist on the goal for the Everblades.
Turple won his seventh consecutive game as he finished with 33 saves for Gwinnett in the win. The Gladiators went 4-for-8 on the man advantage on the power play in the victory.
