Louisiana IceGators News Release
Lafayette, LA -Playing in only their 3rd home game of 2005, the Louisiana IceGators continued to struggle, losing to the Texas Wildcatters 4-1. For the IceGators the 2005 has not been kind, as Louisiana's record during the year falls to 3-15-1.
Texas scored the only goal of the 1st period as Rob Globke remained red hot against the Gators. The Florida Panthers 2nd round pick in 2002 redirected a Jeff Brown wrist shot past Nathan Marsters at 13:03 for the only tally of the first 20 minutes. It was Globke's 7th goal of the season in only 9 games as a Wildcatter, his 4th against the Gators.
The Wildcatters tallied the first two goals of the second period to extend their lead to 3-0. At 7:04, Kamil Kreps tallied on a short handed two on one for his 3rd of the season and a 2-0 Wildcatters cushion. At 10:04 the line of Globke, Cooper and Kreps struck again, this time it was Kevin Cooper off the scramble in front, putting home his 13th of the year. Louisiana finally cracked Davis Parley at 17:35 with a power play tally. Jim Shepherd scored his first goal as an IceGator and 10th overall, when he came out of the left corner and slid the puck under Parley for the lamp lighter and 3-1 deficit after 40 minutes of play.
Kreps closed out the scoring at 18:48 getting his 2nd of the night and 4th of the season on a rebound in front of a defenseless Marsters. The line of Globke, Cooper and Kreps was on the ice for all four Texas goals. With the loss, Louisiana's record is now 17-27-4, 38 points and 5th place in the South. The Gators were outshot by Texas 36-32. Power plays were 1-4 for the Gators and 0-2 for the Wildcatters. The Gators next game is tomorrow night, as the Gators and Wildcatters will finish up the home and home series with a rematch in Beaumont, starting at 7:05pm. The last time these two teams played in Texas, a league season high 15 goals were scored in a thrilling 8-7 IceGators victory. The game will be available on 960AM "the Gator" and on the internet through www.IceGators.com. The game will be available on a videocast via the B2 network and the team website.
