Super Fan Back This Saturday
February 18, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO â Been to a Gulls game lately? If so, then you know who he is. You've seen him... You've definitely heard him... And now he's back! That's right, the Super Fan Cameron Hughes will be yelling, screaming, running around the Sports Arena and rooting for your Gulls again Saturday night!
Can't make it this Saturday? No worries, Super Fan will be in attendance for the majority of the Saturday home games left this season.
Hughes, who started his "Super Fan" career in 1994, performs at numerous sporting events every year throughout North America.
According to Hughes, it all started as a joke. In January 1994, Hughes attended an Ottawa Senators game...
"For some reason, with eight minutes to go in the game, I got up and something happened," he said. "I started to dance like a wild man... Years later, I am still at it and loving it more than ever."
The Ottawa native pretends to be an average fan then suddenly "loses it." He dances, leads cheers, throws out prizes, tells jokes and does anything to get the fans riled up.
Hughes has performed for more than 15 different leagues in 18 states and five provinces.
"I do it because I love seeing fans pumped," he said. "I do it because I love to get reactions from people and I genuinely love the sports and events that surround them."
During his "Super Fan" tenure, Hughes has appeared on ESPN, CNN, TSN, CBC and NBC highlights. He's even had the Prime Minister of Canada, Jean Chretien, dancing at a game.

Super Fan will be appearing at the Sports Arena this Saturday, March 5, March 19 and another game yet to be determined.
All games can be heard live on KLSD 1360AM and www.sandiegogulls.com with Chris Ello calling the play-by-play.
