February 18, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release
PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL in association with The Hockey Company announced on Friday that National Conference forward Jean Desrochers of the Johnstown Chiefs is the first winner of the Reebok All-Star Idol contest.
For 24 hours following the 2005 ECHL All-Star Game, fans were invited to cast online ballots for their choice as the Reebok All-Star Idol. Desrochers, who will receive RBK Hockey apparel for being chosen as the winner, finished ahead of fellow Northern Conference forward Ryan Kinasewich of Reading and American Conference forward Carl Mallette of Greenville.
Televised live for the fourth consecutive year, the game was available to more than 30 million homes, including a third straight year on The NHL Network in Canada as well as being shown live on Comcast Charter Sports Southeast and America One Television. The telecast was again offered free of charge to all ECHL teams and was to be carried live in Idaho, Peoria, Pensacola, Reading and San Diego.
Online viewers totaled 60,000 as the ECHL, in association with Yahoo! Broadcast, made the same telecast that is shown on television available free of charge online for the third year in a row.
