Pride down Inferno 3-2 in shootout

FLORENCE, SC -- The Pee Dee Pride finished up their four-game home stand with a 3-0-1 record after they defeated the Columbia Inferno 3-2 in a shootout in front of 2,875 fans Friday at the Florence Civic Center.

Colubmia struck first at the 17:47 mark of the first period as Eric Boulton unleashed a slap shot from the left-wing circle that beat Sebastien Laplante.

The game remained 1-0 until the 7:23 mark of the third period when Kyle Kidney slid a shot past Inferno netminder Mike Minard on a goal-mouth scramble. The goal was Kidney's 12th of the season.

Pee Dee took its first lead of the night just 1:58 later. Gregg Johnson cleanly won a draw back to Darryl Green at the blue line, and the Pride defenseman blasted a shot past Minard for his sixth goal of the season.

Columbia tied the game with 5:44 remaining in regulation, as D'Arcy McConvey beat Laplante from a bad angle in the right-wing cirlce for a power-play goal.

In the shootout, Columbia scored once on six attempts, while the Pride tallied twice on six shots.

Pee Dee wraps up its three-game weekend tomorrow night, traveling to Augusta for a 7:30 face off with the Lynx. Catch all of the action on WDAR Sunny 105.5 and www.peedeepride.com starting with the Palmetto Chiropractic Pre-Game Show at 7:10.

The Pride return home next Friday, hosting the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:30.
