HIGHLIGHTS: The West Virginia Power beat the Lakewood BlueClaws 9-4 on Friday evening at Appalachian Power Park. Zack Von Rosenberg threw five and two thirds innings for the Power, picking up his third win of the 2011 season.

The Power fell behind early following a two run home run from Blueclaw Jim Murphy in the top of the first inning to take an early 2-0.

The Power wouldn't wait long to respond, getting their offense going in the bottom of the second against All-Star Northern Division starter, David Buchanan. Mel Rojas Jr. started the rally with a single and that would lead to a streak of hits from the West Virginia lineup. Elias Diaz followed with a single advancing Rojas Jr. into scoring position. Rogelio Noris drove an RBI double down the left field line scoring Rojas Jr. Jairo Marquez shot a two run line drive to center field scoring Diaz and Noris to put the Power ahead for the first time 3-2. Drew Maggi followed with a single and two base error by Lakewood right fielder Anthony Hewitt, scoring Marquez and bringing Maggi to third. The inning would close with the Power ahead 4-2.

West Virginia added two more runs in the third inning. After Dan Grovatt led off with a single, Justin Howard shot an RBI double into left field scoring Grovatt. Howard would reach third on a single from Rojas Jr., and score on a sacrifice fly from Noris putting the Power ahead 6-2 at the close of the third.

The Blueclaws would add an unearned run in the fifth after a throwing error and an RBI double from Michael Dabbs.

West Virginia added three more insurance runs in the fifth inning. Some fielding mishaps from the Blueclaws would lead to three unearned runs for the Power advancing their lead to 9-3.

Zack Von Rosenberg (3-4) settled in after the two run first to pitch five and two thirds, giving up three runs on seven hits and striking out seven.

Jim Murphy added another home run with a solo shot in the eighth off Trent Stevenson. However, aside the solo homer, The Power received solid relief performances from Stevenson (0-2) and Victor Black (0-0) who combined to give up one run in three and one third innings of work, and closing the action with a 9-4 Power victory.

West Virginia and Lakewood continue this four game series on Saturday night at 7:05 pm. The Power will send right-hander Tyler Waldron to the mound against BlueClaws southpaw Ervis Manzanillo at Appalachian Power Park.
