Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets had their biggest single inning of the year and received 11 walks from Asheville Tourists' pitching in a 15-5 win on Friday night in front of 4,919 at Lake Olmstead Stadium. With the win, the GreenJackets have now won four of their last six games.

Already leading 1-0 on a first inning Josh Mazzola sacrifice fly, the GreenJackets sent 12 to the plate and exploded for eight runs while Asheville starter Tyler Matzek imploded on the mound. Matzek walked six in the inning and allowed seven runs on two hits in the frame.

Devin Harris led off the inning with a solo home run to make it a 2-0 Augusta lead. With one out, four straight walks forced a run home. Adam Duvall singled home another and the inning's fifth walk pushed the lead to 5-0. Ryan Lollis singled home another, a Harris sacrifice fly gave him his second RBI of the inning and Ryan Scoma drove home two more with a base hit. When the dust settled, the GreenJackets led 9-0 at the end of two innings.

Asheville scored three times off Justin Schumer in the third on a Cristhian Adames two-run double and Kyle Parker's RBI single. Ehire Adrianza hit a solo home run to open the third, but the Tourists kept chipping away at the Augusta lead. Avery Barnes hit a two-out RBI triple in the fourth and a sacrifice fly in the sixth to cut Augusta's lead to five runs at 10-5.

That was as close as the Tourists got as the GreenJackets scored the last five runs of the game to win by ten. Adrianza's second double of the game brought home two more in the sixth while the GreenJackets added three more in the eighth on a Raynor Campbell sacrifice fly and Adam Duvall's two-run double. Duvall finished with four hits, becoming the third different GreenJackets to record a four-hit game.

Schumer (3-2) battled through five innings and allowed four runs - three earned - to get his first win since coming off the disabled list at the start of the month. Schumer allowed eight hits and a walk while striking out three. Matzek (0-2) retired just four of the 13 hitters he faced and finished up with a total of six walks in 1.1 innings. The teams combined to walk 13 hitters - the fifth time in the six meetings between the teams where the pitchers have combined to walk 12 or more.

The GreenJackets will look to seal a winning record in the homestand on Saturday night in the penultimate game of the first half. All-Star Taylor Rogers (6-6), a winner in five of his last six starts, will head to the mound against Asheville's Erik Stavert (2-4, 8.13). First pitch will come at 7:05 with pregame coverage beginning at 6:50, airing online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
