Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
CHARLESTON, WV - The Lakewood BlueClaws dropped their 2nd consecutive game as they fell 9-4 to the West Virginia Power on Friday night. The loss drops Lakewood to a game under .500 at 33-34 and it improves West Virginia to 34-33. There are 2 games left in the series and 2 games left in the First Half for both teams. Lakewood has finished with a winning record in each half since the First Half of 2006. They will now need to win each of the next 2 games to keep their 10 half winning record streak alive.
Jim Murphy continues to show why he is an All-Star for Lakewood as he went 2-3 on Friday with 2 Home Runs, 3 RBI, and a walk. The HR's were the 15th and 16th of the season for Murphy. Those 16 long balls are now the franchise record for most HR's in a half for a BlueClaw breaking the previous record of 15 by Juan Richardson in the 2nd half of 2001. Michael Dabbs was 2-4 with a double and run scored, and Cameron Rupp was just 1-3 but hit the first triple of his professional career.
Lakewood Starter David Buchanan didn't have his best outing as he threw 5 innings, allowed 11 hits, 1 walk, 9 runs/5 earned, and struck out 3 in picking up his 4th loss to fall to 8-4 on the year. Colby Shreve pitched very well in relief for the BlueClaws tossing 3 shutout innings of 2 hit baseball and striking out 2. Power Starter Zach Von Rosenberg got the win to improve to 3-4 after going 5.2 innings, allowing 7 hits and 3 runs.
Saturday the BlueClaws will try to get back to .500 with a win as they send out Venezuelan LHP Ervis Manzanillo (4-3, 4.91 ERA) to the mound. He will be opposed by RHP Tyler Waldron (5-3, 4.02 ERA) of West Virginia. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm on Saturday.
