Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 17, 2011) -- The Kannapolis Intimidators dropped a third straight home game, matching a season high, as a late throwing error propelled the Greensboro Grasshoppers past the Intimidators, 5-2, on Friday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.

With Kannapolis up 2-1 with one out in the seventh inning and a runner on first, a Drew Lee throwing error to second base gave the Grasshoppers runners on second and third base with one out. Matt Heidenreich retired the next batter before Phil Negus came on in relief, allowing a two-run bloop single to Noah Perio to give the Grasshoppers a 4-2 lead. Mark Canha tacked on a solo home run (12) in the top of the eighth.

Greensboro starting pitcher Zach Neal plunked Kyle Eveland -- his third hit batter of the game -- to lead off the bottom of the third inning, and Ross Wilson doubled Eveland over to third. Brady Shoemaker cashed Eveland with a high chopper down the third base line, and Juan Silverio's double brought in Wilson for a 2-0 Intimidators lead.

The Grasshoppers answered in the top of the fourth with an RBI- groundout, pulling with a run, 2-1.

Heidenreich (4-5) took the loss for the Intimidators, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits with three strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings. Negus gave up two runs in 1 1/3 innings before Reid Kelly pitched a scorless ninth for the Intimidators.

Neal (4-4) earned the win for the Grasshoppers, allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Michael Brady picked up his ninth save of the season with a perfect bottom of the ninth.

The Intimidators face the Grasshoppers in the third game of the series on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. with a fireworks show to follow immediately after the game. Tickets are available by calling (704) 932-3267 or visiting www.IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
