Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - The South Atlantic League announced today that Augusta GreenJackets pitcher Shawn Sanford will join five other GreenJackets at the league's All-Star Game on Tuesday in Salisbury, Maryland - the home of the host Delmarva Shorebirds.

With roster spots open because of promotions and injuries, the 2009 13th Round selection from the University of South Florida is a solid choice to fill a vacant spot. Sanford's 2.99 ERA is the league's seventh-best and he recently completed a stretch of seven starts where he walked just four hitters in 45.1 innings.

Sanford's selection means the GreenJackets will now have six representatives at the league's midsummer classic. Sanford joins third baseman Adam Duvall and second baseman Carlos Willoughby, both of whom will start at those positions for the Southern Division, while starting pitcher Taylor Rogers and closer Stephen Harrold will help make up the Southern Division pitching staff. GreenJackets Pitching Coach Steve Kline will also be involved, serving in the same position for Southern Division manager Ryan Ellis.

The GreenJackets continue a four-game series with the Asheville Tourists tonight at 7:05 p.m. with gates opening at 6 p.m. Radio pregame coverage begins at 6:50 p.m., airing online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com . Single-game tickets for tonight's game and any home game can currently be obtained by calling 706-922-WINS or online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com .
