The Power took a 1-0 lead when Matt Curry singled in Dan Grovatt from third, but the lead was short-lived. The Tourists would plate four runs in the second against West Virginia starter Brandon Cumpton on four consecutive hits and added three in the fourth, including a solo home run by Avery Barnes.
Asheville scored twice in the sixth to build a 9-1 lead before Gift Ngoepe hit a solo home run, his first as a member of the Power, off Tourists' starter Edwar Cabrera. Asheville would tack on four more runs to cap the scoring at 13-2.
Cumpton (0-2) allowed seven runs on seven hits over four innings, while Cabrera (1-1) struck out eight over six innings. The Power were held to three hits, including two by Matt Curry. Five different Tourists had multiple hits in the win.
West Virginia and Asheville close out this series on Thursday evening at Appalachian Power Park. The Power send Zac Fuesser to the hill against the Tourists' Albert Campos at 7:05 pm.
