CHARLESTON, SC - The New York Yankees announced Wednesday that Staten Island Yankees right-handed pitcher Mike Gipson has been promoted to the Charleston RiverDogs. Left-handed reliever Freddy Lewis, meanwhile, has been transferred from Charleston to Staten Island.

Gipson, a Florida Atlantic product, went 3-3 with a 5.01 ERA in15 games (eight starts) between Staten Island and Charleston in 2010. The 22-year old spent the bulk of the season in the NYPL before earning a late-season bump to the SAL, where he recorded a 0-2 mark with a 7.88 ERA in three games (two starts). Overall, Gipson totaled 56 strikeouts in 46.2 innings during his rookie professional season.

Lewis, a Gainesville native, struggled in two relief appearances with the RiverDogs this season. In 1.2 innings, the southpaw allowed four hits, seven runs (none earned), and seven walks, while striking out three batters. Lewis enjoyed a successful 2010 rookie season, posting a 1-1 mark with a 2.30 ERA in 14 appearances out of the bullpen between the GCL and Staten Island Yankees.

The RiverDogs wrap up an eight-game road-trip with two more contests against the Greenville Drive before returning to Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park to open the home slate with a nine-game homestand, Friday, April 15, versus the Rome Braves.
