LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws dropped the first game of their doubleheader Wednesday by a final score of 9-2. LHP Ervis Manzanillo made his 2011 debut, and got roughed up for 7 Runs in just 2 innings of work, and Greensboro pitching held the BlueClaws bats in check en route to the Game 1 win.
In Game 2 of the doubleheader, RHP Garett Claypool went 4 shutout innings striking out 7, while Juan Sosa got his 1st win of the season for the BlueClaws. 1B Jim Murphy hit his team leading 2nd home run of the year, and the BlueClaws held on to win 4-2.
No BlueClaw has had more than 1 hit in a game this year, and Jim Murphy is still the only BlueClaw with a home run in 2011. OF Anthony Hewitt hit what appeared to be a solo HR in the 2nd inning of Game 2, but it was ruled foul by Home Plate umpire Jeremy Riggs. Manager Chris Truby argued the call, but to no avail.
The BlueClaws and Grasshoppers will finish off their 4 game series Thursday at FirstEnergy Park with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. The first 2,000 fans through the gates Thursday will receive the BlueClaws 2011 Magnet Schedule thanks to JerseyShore.MomsLikeMe.com.
