Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
SALISBURY, Maryland (April 13, 2011) - For the second straight night, the Kannapolis Intimidators used a big inning with two homeruns to come from behind to defeat the Delmarva Shorebirds, 8-3, on Wednesday night. The Intimidators improved to 5-1 on the season and secured a series win over Delmarva with a game to go on Thursday.
With the Intimidators in an early 1-0 hole, 1B Dan Black's homerun (1) tied the game in the top of the fourth. Black finished the night 3- for-5 with a double and two RBI to go along with his long ball.
After Delmarva reclaimed the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the fourth, Kannapolis came to life in the top of the sixth to the tune of four runs. 3B Juan Silverio homered (2) for the second straight night, tying the game on a solo shot to left field. SS Kyle Eveland's sac fly cashed RF Kenny Gilbert, CF Trayce Thompson went deep for a two- run homer (2) to center field, putting the Intimidators up, 5-2.
RHP Ryan Buch, making his second start of 2011, tossed six strong innings to earn the win for Kannapolis. Buch (1-1) allowed two runs (one earned) off five hits and one walk while tallying eight strikeouts. RHP Addison Reed threw two scoreless innings of relief, and RHP Phil Negus allowed a run to the Shorebirds in an otherwise uneventful ninth inning. The Intimidators pitchers combined to strike out 11 batters while allowing only one walk.
The Intimidators tacked on a run in the seventh on a Dan Black RBI double, and two more in the eighth thanks to RBI singles from Eveland and Thomspon.
Brandon Holloway took the loss for Delmarva, squandering five innings of one-run baseball from starting pitcher Luis Noel.
Kannapolis and Delmarva wrap up the four-game series on Thursday night at Perdue Stadium in Salisbury, Maryland. The Intimidators are scheduled to work a bullpen day Thursday while their starting pitchers get back in order after back-to-back postponements last week forced a realignment of the rotation. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. to conclude the season-opening road trip.
The Intimidators open at home on Friday, April 15 against the Hickory Crawdads at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. Tickets are available by calling the box office at (704) 932-3267 or visiting www.IntimidatorsBaseball.com .
