Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (April 13, 2011) - The Kannapolis Intimidators, the Class A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, will debut the team's new alternate logo on Saturday, April 16 at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. The logo of a scripted letter "I" also features a silhouette of former Intimidators owner and NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt.
Kannapolis will wear the "Victory Pose" logo at seven home games during the 2011 season, once for every Winston Cup that Earnhardt won during his career. The Intimidators will wear the logo on April 16 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Earnhardt purchasing ownership in the franchise.
"The new logo is a great way to continue to honor the legacy of Dale Earnhardt," said Intimidators GM Randy Long.
The franchise, formerly known as the Piedmont Boll Weevils, officially took on the "Intimidators" nickname and the identity of Kannapolis' most famous resident in 2001, the same year it became a White Sox affiliate.
The Intimidators will wear the new logo for a second time on Saturday, April 23 to celebrate what would have been Earnhardt's 60th birthday on April 29. The team will also sport the Victory Pose on Monday, May 23 to recognize Earnhardt's induction into the NASCAR Hall of Fame on May 23, 2010.
Additional dates for the team to wear the logo will be announced throughout the season. Fans can purchase merchandise featuring the scripted "I" and Victory Pose, including caps and shirts, at the Intimidation Station merchandise store at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium or online at www.IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
The Intimidators will open at home on Friday, April 15 against the Hickory Crawdads at 7:05 p.m. at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. The team is currently 4-1 on its season-opening road trip to Lakewood and Delmarva. Season and single-game tickets are available by calling (704) 932-3267 or visiting www.IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
