PREVIEW:

The Shorebirds have dropped two straight games for the first time this season heading into game three of the series against the Kannapolis Intimidators. Juan Silverio and Kyle Eveland each homered in the seventh inning to give the Intimidators a 9-6 lead last night. They tacked on one more run in the eighth inning to defeat Delmarva 10-6.

OPPONENT SCORING FIRST:

The Shorebirds' opponent have scored the first run of the game in three straight games. The Shorebirds have scored first in only two of the four games this year.

SCHUTZ LEADS THE LEAGUE:

In three games played, outfielder Kipp Schutz leads the South Atlantic League with a .556 batting average (10-18). He also ranks fourth in the circuit in RBIs with seven, third in the league in doubles with four and second in the league in on-base percentage (.579).

THE SECOND INNING:

The Shorebirds have scored ten runs in the second inning through six games this season. They have plated a run in the second inning in four of the last five games. The Shorebirds have scored only one run in the first inning this season.

Of the 162 at-bats this season, 159 have come against right-handed pitchers. The only left-handed pitcher that the Shorebirds have faced is Dayton Grant, in the eighth inning of game one.

BOTTOM OF THE ORDER PRODUCTION:

The Shorebirds 7-9 hitters (Ty Kelly, Michael Ohlman and Brian Conley) went 5-for-9 last night with two runs scored and four RBIs. Only two other players recorded hits (Kieron Pope and Kipp Schutz). Meanwhile, the top part of the Shorebirds lineup (Trent Mummey, Mychal Givens and Manny Machado) went a combined 0-for-14 last night. They also struck out four times.
