Waters to Make Major League Debut

(Bowie, MD) - Former Baysox starting pitcher Chris Waters has been promoted to the Baltimore Orioles and will make his Major League debut against the Angels tonight, August 5th. Waters will be the first player from the Baysox opening day roster to play in the Majors.

Waters was stellar for the Baysox this season, posting a 1.69 ERA while winning five out of six starts for Bowie, all in April. He made his first appearance for the Baysox on April 5th, starting the second game of a doubleheader. He only worked three innings because he was scheduled to make his next start three days later, and allowed just one run on three hits.

Once he entered his spot in the rotation, Waters hit his stride. He won five straight starts, lasting at least five innings each time out. He allowed no runs on just three hits in his next two starts combined, pitching a total of 10.2 innings while striking out seven. He went 7.0 one-run innings April 19th against Akron, giving up just four hits and one walk to four strikeouts.

Water's last start for Bowie came April 30th against Portland. He lasted 6.0 innings in the victory, allowing a run on four hits while striking out five. Following the game, Waters was promoted to AAA Norfolk where he has spent the last three months of the season in the Tides rotation.

Waters struggled early, but turned things around in July, going 3-1 with a 3.60 ERA in six starts in the month for the Tides.

The lefty spent almost the entire 2007 season in Bowie, posting a record of 8-9 with a 4.47 ERA in 27 starts for the Baysox. He allowed three runs or less in nine straight starts from April 19 to May 31.
