Connecticut Defenders News Release

NORWICH, CT- After enduring a season-high six game losing skid, Dave McKae led the home Defenders to a 6-2 win over the visiting Trenton Thunder.

Connecticut put pressure on the Thunder right away as McKae's 1-2-3 top of the first led to a fruitful home half. Pablo Sandoval would supply the run-scoring hit to plate Ryan Rohlinger as the Defs took an early 1-0 lead.

Mckae would continue his excellence on the mound as his offensive continued their success at the dish. In the last of the fourth, Carlos Sosa tapped an RBI fielder's choice to score Sandoval from third and Dave Maroul later lifted a sacrifice fly to the outfield to send Adam Witter home as the advantage pushed to 3-0.

Trenton would finally get the better of McKae in the sixth inning as two runs scored on a Reegie Corona double and an error to make it an uncomfortable 3-2 game.

The Defs added some insurance in the last of the seventh when Witter drew a bases loaded walk to score Maroul. At the end of seven, it was 4-2, Defenders.

Insurance was at a discount at the Dodd as the eighth featured two more runs for Connecticut as Olmo Rosario's two-run single ballooned the lead to 6-2.

Justin Hedrick chucked a flawless ninth to secure Dave McKae's seventh win of the year as he improved to 7-6. Trenton starter Steven White fell for the first time in his second Eastern League start to drop his record to 0-1.

The Defenders and Thunder will face off in a rubber match on Wednesday at Dodd Stadium. Tickets are still available for the contest at ctdefenders.com or by calling the box office at (860) 887-7962.
