Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

Moose Jaw, SK - This week marked the first week since early October where the Moose Jaw Warriors had a full week of practice at home.

The team is well rested and prepared for a showdown with the Swift Current Broncos on Friday night at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

"It was really good, we had some fun early on in the week and we got some real good work done, paid attention to details, so all-in-all, real good week, you don't get this opportunity very often, so we took advantage of it," Warriors head coach Mark O'Leary said.

The Warriors have had a strong start to the 2023-24 season, currently sitting 13-9-0-1 record on the year and the third best winning percentage in the Eastern Conference.

Moose Jaw is coming off picking up four out of six points in three games last week.

"We're in a pretty good spot right now," Warriors defenceman Kalem Parker said. "We're pretty confident and we're ready to work."

Parker is one of the Warriors' new additions to the team over the first two months of the regular season, acquired along with Brayden Schuurman in an October trade.

O'Leary said the team is starting to come together and settle into the team it wants to be this season.

"The main objective with any team is playing a certain way together, connected, if we're doing that, we're a good team or we're not doing that, we're not a very good team," he said. "We're looking for some consistency in terms of playing the right way as a group and a good long week of practice certainly helps."

For Parker, he feels the key to the Warriors' success is playing at a higher pace than the opposition.

"We're playing fast, we're playing North-South hockey, we're not sitting on pucks a long time, we're not taking pucks back, so we've got to push the pace and play fast," he said.

Friday will mark the first meeting of the season for the Warriors with the Broncos, who come in sitting seventh in the Eastern Conference with an 11-10-1-0 record this season.

O'Leary said the Broncos present a tough challenge for the Warriors.

"They're a veteran team, guys that have been in the league a long time, they have guys that can score goals, very opportunistic, they don't need all kinds of looks before they capitalize and we'll have to be really smart with the puck," he said.

The Warriors and Broncos meet at 7 p.m. at the Moose Jaw Events Centre. Moose Jaw will also travel to Prince Albert on Saturday night.
