Everett, Wash. - A dominant first period for Portland gave way to a run of five unanswered goals for the Everett Silvertips as they topped the Hawks 6-3 on Friday night.

For the first 20 minutes, it was all Portland. The Hawks' line of Josh Davies, Gabe Klassen and James Stefan each scored in that order to give the visitors a 3-0 lead after the first frame, with Klassen factoring in on all three goals.

First, Klassen capitalized on a puck that deflected off a linesman's skate to find Davies streaking through the slot for a tidy tuck past Tyler Palmer, with Klassen earning his 100th WHL assist. Davies now has eight goals in his last six games and leads the team with 16 on the year. Klassen then doubled the lead, taking a Stefan stretch pass from the Portland goal line, holding off defenseman Kaden Hammell, then tucking a quick shot into the top corner across his body. Finally, with just nine seconds remaining, a Klassen pass on the rush found Luca Cagnoni at the top of the right circle, who dished to Stefan in the opposite circle for a quick finish.

But as strong as the Winterhawks were in the opening stanza, the Silvertips were game for the challenge. Namely, Teague Patton, as he rattled off a natural hat-trick in under nine minutes during the second period to level the game at three apiece. Patton scored his sixth, seventh and eighth goals to bring the crowd to its feet, with two of those coming on the man advantage. With a brand-new game heading into the third, both teams tested the waters before Austin Roest and Carter Bear scored 41 seconds apart midway through the third to open up a 5-3 lead for Everett. A Ben Hemmerling empty netter then sealed the win in the dying moments of play.

Everett's Ethan Chadwick earned the win with 20 saves on 20 shots in relief of Tyler Palmer, while Hawks netminder Luke Brunen faced down 37 of 42 in a busy evening.

The Winterhawks are back on home ice for two games this weekend, taking on Saskatoon on Saturday and Spokane on Sunday.
