Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings clawed back from a two-goal third period deficit to knockoff the Regina Pats by a score of 4-2 on Friday night at Rogers Place.

The Pats were able to score in both the early and late stages of the opening 20 minutes to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

Logan Peskett opened the scoring just 1:51 into the game after taking a centering pass from Parker Berge and hoisting a shot in off the crossbar.

Tanner Howe made it 2-0 Regina with only 22 seconds left in the period after Anthony Wilson spotted him with a pass in the left-circle of the Edmonton zone where he uncorked a one-timer into the top shelf.

In the second period, the Oil Kings put 15 shots the way of Regina netminder Ewan Huet but were unable to solve the rookie.

The Oil Kings best look came on a clear-cut breakaway from Ty Nash who made an excellent move to his forehand but an even better right-pad save was turned in by Huet to keep the Regina lead at two ahead of the third period.

The Oil Kings continued to push the play in the third period, and their work would finally payoff scoring four times in the final 7:37 of the game to pickup the come-from-behind win.

John Szabo got Edmonton on the board at 12:23 of the third after streaking into the Regina zone and lasering a shot from the right-circle over the right shoulder of Huet.

Just over two minutes later, Skyler Bruce tied the game at two with a power play goal beating Huet with a low shot from the bottom of the left-circle.

Looking like this game was headed for overtime, Marc Lajoie changed that thought as with only 2:30 left in the game he tossed a puck on goal from the left-wing boards of the Regina zone that found it's way through Huet to give Edmonton the late lead.

Ty Nash put the game on ice with 47 seconds left after putting home an empty-net goal set up back Gavin Hodnett, who had three assists on the night.

Kolby Hay picked up his sixth win of the season making 27 saves, while Huet finished up with 33 stops. Edmonton went 1-for-4 on the power play, Regina was 0-for-3.

Next up, the Oil Kings hit the road to take on the Calgary Hitmen tomorrow night at the Saddledome with puck drop scheduled for 7:00 P.M. You can catch all the action on the Oil Kings Radio Network, iHeartRadio Canada.
