Warriors Score Solid Win in Prince Albert

Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

It was a team win for the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday night in Prince Albert.

The Warriors picked up goals from throughout the lineup and saw another stellar performance from Carl Tetachuk in net, making 23 saves, during a 4-2 win over the Raiders at the Art Hauser Centre.

"The team came out strong today and kept in the fight and we just battled," Warriors forward Josh Hoekstra said after the win.

Hoekstra scored his third goal of the season on his 19th birthday to help the Warriors to the victory.

The goal came on a breakaway late in the first period and gave Moose Jaw a two-goal cushion after one and they never surrendered that advantage.

"It was a big goal," Warriors assistant coach Scott King said. "Plays like that are turning points in the game and it made it a lot hard for them to battle back."

Hoekstra said it was a great feeling to find the back of the net on his birthday.

"I gotta thank [Jagger] Firkus, a great chip to me and it feels really nice to get that one," he said.

Matthew Gallant scored just 4:05 into the game on a seeing-eye point shot for his fourth of the season and then Hoekstra added his breakaway goal with 1:06 to play in the opening period.

The Warriors rode that start the rest of the way.

"Our early starts have really been helping us out this year," Hoekstra said. "If we keep that going, we can just keep rolling as a team."

Max Wanner scored for the third time in the five games, making it 3-0 for the Warriors with 7:49 gone in the second period.

Prince Albert answered back less than a minute later when Trevor Thurston scored to make it 3-1.

The Warriors restored the three-goal lead in the final minute of the second when Firkus wired in a one-timer for his team-leading 29th goal of the season.

Evan Herman scored early in the third period for Prince Albert, but they couldn't close the gap any further as Tetachuk turned away nine shots in the final frame to secure the win.

Firkus finished with a goal and three points for Moose Jaw, giving him a team-leading 63 points this season.

"I thought PA was pretty good tonight and made it real hard on us, but at the end of the day, we got some timely goals and some guys stepped up, so it's good to see," King said.

The Warriors sit fourth in the Easter Conference with 63 points, two behind the Red Deer Rebels.

Moose Jaw will return to the ice coming up on Friday night when they host the Swift Current Broncos at Mosaic Place. Before heading to Saskatoon for a big game against the Blades next Sunday.
