The Kelowna Rockets wrapped up their road trip to Prince George with a 3-2 win over the Cougars on Saturday night at the CN Centre in Prince George, BC.
Tied at one after two periods of play, the Rockets took the lead early in the third period on a goal from Jake Lee. Gabriel Szturc added the insurance marker later in the period, which would eventually hold up as the game-winner when the Cougars pushed back in the final minutes.
Talyn Boyko made 26 saves on 28 shots, picking up his 20th win of the season.
With the win, the Rockets record is now 28-12-1-3.
In on a two-on-one, Turner McMillen (7) went for the pass when the puck went off of the sliding Cougar defender and past netminder Tyler Brennan into the net 6:19 in the first period.
Boyko tripped a Cougar, resulting in a power play that led to Connor Bowie's (10) game-tying goal.
Jake Lee (13) broke the tie 27 seconds into the third period. Gabriel Szturc (10) then gave the Rockets a two-goal cushion. With the Cougars net empty, Hudson Thornton (10) pulled Prince George within one on a seeing eyeshot with 2:26 to go.
The Rockets were zero-for-two on the power play, while the penalty kill was busy shutting down eight of the Cougars chances on the man advantage.
Kelowna outshot Prince George 38 to 28.
The Rockets will now return home to host the Tri-City Americans on Family Day Monday at 2:05 pm. Tickets for all Rockets home games are available at selectyourtickets.com, at the Prospera Place box office or by phone at 250-762-5050.
