Sweeping Our Way out of Swift Current
February 20, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Swift Current, SK - It was a clean sweep for the Brandon Wheat Kings, as they wrapped up a four-game Sask-Alberta road trip with a 2-1 win in Swift Current on Saturday night.
Ridly Greig and Zakhar Polshakov each scored on the powerplay and Ethan Kruger made 22 saves as the Wheat Kings improved their record to 25-15-3-2 on the season, leapfrogging Saskatoon into 5th place in the conference.
"We did a lot of really good things tonight," said Head Coach Don MacGillivray. "The two powerplay goals tonight were huge. Swift plays us hard... This was our fourth game in five nights and we came to play."
All three goals in the game were scored on the powerplay, with Greig's game-winner coming on a rare six-on-four extra attacker situation.
"Our goals against in these four games was two or less," added MacGillivray. "That gives you a chance to win. We were creating offensive chances each night and our young defensemen stepped up and logged some big minutes for us this week."
Due to deteriorating weather conditions in SE Saskatchewan and SW Manitoba, the Wheat Kings stayed overnight in Swift Current and will hopefully return to the Wheat City on Sunday afternoon.
The Wheat Kings welcome Saskatoon for Hockey Fights Cancer week, starting on Wednesday night vs the Saskatoon Blades.
