Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
The Medicine Hat Tigers hosted the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Saturday night at Co-op Place. It was the fifth meeting of the season between these two foes, and the first time both Logan Barlage and Corson Hopwo would face their former teams.
Medicine Hat came out of the gates buzzing. Teague Patton was able to slip the puck past Hurricane's netminder Jared Picklyk, but it was determined that the whistle had blown before the puck crossed the goal line, so it would remain scoreless.
It would stay scoreless until midway through the frame when Tyson Lavenutre put a heavy shot on Langkow, who was able to most of it, but not enough as Igor Klavdiev is able to bury the rebound to put the Canes up by one. Noah Chadwick got credit for the secondary assist.
The Tigers Brendan Lee was called for slashing with just under six minutes to go in the period. Langkow would make a couple stops on the man advantage, but eventually Jett Jones was able to get his stick on a Logan McCutcheon point shot, redirecting it past the Tigers keeper to push the lead to 2-0.
Shots on goal in the 1st period 13-9 in favour of Lethbridge.
There would be no scoring in the second period, both goaltenders would be tested, but both stood tall throughout the frame. Tigers outshot the Hurricanes in the period 7-6.
Brayden Boehm took a nice pass from Dru Krebs down the left side, showed great patience with the puck, eventually beating Picklyk to bring the Tigers to within one.
There would be some last minute fireworks as Oasiz Wiesblatt found himself in alone on the Lethbridge netminder with only 3.5 seconds left in the game, but the whistled down, that would be as close as the Tigers come, making the final 2-1.
