Warriors Gain Dynamic Scorer in Trade with Gwinnett
March 11, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Estero, FL - With Thursday's 3:00 p.m. trade deadline nearly two days away, the Greenville Road Warriors, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, today announced the team's second move in the last 24 hours. The Road Warriors have acquired forward Anthony Luciani from the Gwinnett Gladiators in exchange for winger Scott Arnold and future considerations.
"He's a dynamic one-on-one player," head coach Dean Stork said. "He can change the course of a game at any time. The fans are going to love him."
Luciani, 24, was traded to Gwinnett from Toledo on Monday in a move that sent defenseman Joe Stejskal to the Walleye. In 52 games with Toledo this season, Luciani earned a team-best 58 points and 27 assists, and was tied for second on the club with a +18 rating. The fourth-year pro also recorded 21 goals and 20 penalty minutes. In addition, his 38 points are tied for 12th in the league's scoring race with Vinny Saponari. Luciani tallied a career-high five points (2g, 3a) and +6 rating in a 12-0 victory on Feb. 22nd at Gwinnett.
Last season, the Maple, Ontario native produced more than a point-per-game to lead the Cincinnati Cyclones in scoring. In 50 regular-season contests, he earned 53 points (25g, 28a), 32 penalty minutes and a +11 rating. Luciani added three points (2g, 1a) in nine American Hockey League (AHL) games with the San Antonio Rampage. He and Saponari were teammates in Cincinnati last season.
The 5'8, 190-pound forward also spent the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons with Cincinnati, where he amassed 65 points (30g, 35a) and 96 penalty minutes in 83 games.
Prior to turning pro, Luciani spent three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Erie Otters. He debuted with the AHL's Rochester Americans during the 2010-11 campaign and earned three points (2g, 1a) in three games.
Arnold made 39 appearances with the Road Warriors this season and registered 12 points (7g, 5a) and 53 penalty minutes. He returns to the Gladiators where he notched 20 points (8g, 12a) and 20 penalty minutes in 32 games during the 2012-13 season.
