Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. (March 11, 2015) - Nicholas Rioux scored on the power play at 3:25 of overtime to give the host Quad City Mallards (30-23-7) a 3-2 win over the Missouri Mavericks (22-30-6) Wednesday night. With the victory the Mallards opened up a three point lead over the Wichita Thunder in the battle for second place in the ECHL's Central Division.

Rioux ended the game with a blast from the top of the right wing circle. The Mavericks earned one point for forcing the game to sudden death by twice coming from behind to even the score in regulation. Andrew Courtney's wrist shot from the slot tied the score at two with 5:33 left in the third period.

The Mallards had taken a 2-1 lead deep into the third after Mason Baptista, who was making his professional debut, jammed the puck in from the doorstep at 17:16 of the second period to snap a 1-1 deadlock.

The Mavericks first battled back to equalize when Kain Allicock buried Lindsay Sparks's centering pass at 11:14 of the second.

The Mallards' Logan Nelson scored the game's first goal by rifling in a goalmouth feed from Kevin Baker- who had two assists- at 13:35 of the first period.

The Mallards return to action Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Wichita Thunder on home ice. The Mallards will wear special edition fan-designed jerseys Saturday night and after the game those jerseys will go up for bid in a live auction to benefit Genesis Health Services Foundation's Outpatient Rehabilitation.
