MOLINE, IL (March 11, 2015)- The Missouri Mavericks skated away with one point from their Wednesday night matchup against the Quad City Mallards at the iWireless Center, falling 3-2 in overtime.
The Mallards were first to strike at 13:35 of the opening period when Logan Nelson tallied his sixteenth goal of the season with a lone assist from Kevin Baker.
Missouri entered the second frame trailing 1-0, but Mavs rookie Kain Allicock got the equalizer at 11:14 with his first professional goal. Teammates Lindsay Sparks and Andrew Courtney were credited with assists on the young forward's game-tying tally. Mason Baptisa took back the lead for Quad City, 2-1, at 17:16 with the help of Baker and Nick Grasso.
The Mavs fought through nearly fifteen minutes of the third period before Andrew Courtney took a feed from Sparks tied the game again for the visiting team, 2-2, each taking their second point of the night. The Mallards had no answer for Courtney's twenty-sixth goal of the season through the remainder of regulation, sending the stalemate to extra time.
Missouri was unable to get a shot away entering the five-minute overtime period, and were handed a full two-minute penalty for goaltender interference when forward Jared Brown made a drive toward the Quad City net with the puck. The Mallards capitalized on this significant man-advantage and were able to score the game-winning goal via Nicholas Rioux at 3:25 of OT, assisted by Matt Duffy and Justin Fox.
Mavs net-minder Josh Robinson made 29 saves for Missouri through sixty-four minutes of play.
The Missouri Mavericks play their next game at home on Friday, Mar. 13 at Independence Events Center against the Brampton Beast. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm (CST). The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a trading card giveaway set featuring the Missouri Mavericks mascot, Mac! Doors open at 5:30pm (CST).
