ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, four-time ECHL Pacific Division Champions and proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's 2014 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, have announced that the club has acquired forward Josh Brittain from the Missouri Mavericks in exchange for the rights to rookie defenseman Chris Owens.
Brittain, 25, has tallied 30 points (15g-15a) and 73 penalty minutes in 46 games split between the Mavericks and Kalamazoo Wings this season.
The 6-foot-5, 231-pound forward began his professional career in 2010-11 with the Syracuse Crunch, and has since gone on to record 133 points (69g-64a) and 420 penalty minutes in 286 career pro games with the Crunch, Elmira Jackals, Fort Wayne Komets, Norfolk Admirals, Hershey Bears, Reading Royals, Wings and Mavericks.
Prior to turning pro, the Milton, Ontario native played in the Ontario Hockey League from 2006-10 with the Kingston Frontenacs, Barrie Colts and Plymouth Whalers, logging 152 points (80g-72a) and 370 penalty minutes in 258 career games.
Brittain was originally a third round draft pick of the Anaheim Ducks (#71 overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
Owens, 25, appeared in training camp this season with the Reign before returning to Acadia University. In 25 games with the Axemen, the defenseman posted 20 points (4g-16a) and 10 penalty minutes.
