Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release

Estero, FL - The Greenville Road Warriors (31-25-4), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, clawed back from an early two-goal deficit to earn a point, but came up short in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Florida Everblades (38-13-6) at Germain Arena on Wednesday.

Despite the loss, Greenville continues to hold a three point lead over Orlando for the fourth and final playoff spot in the East Division. Ryan Hegarty and Anthony Luciani, who was making his Road Warriors' debut, scored the goals for the visitors.

The Road Warriors' offense entered the night with a boost of confidence following the acquisition of forwards Luciani and Thomas Frazee earlier in the week, but it was the 'Blades that came out strong with two goals in the first 4:50 of the contest. Alex Lavoie opened the scoring just 4:12 into the first period when he received a feed from Jordan Henry at the doorstep and flipped a forehand shot top shelf over the glove of goaltender Jason Missiaen.

Adam Brace made it 2-0 just 38 seconds later with his team-leading 25th goal of the season. During a rush in transition, Steven Whitney slipped a pass to Brace on the left wing for a one-timer that beat Missiaen at 4:50.

The Road Warriors bounced back and cut their deficit to one at 17:18 of the second period with a power-play goal from Hegarty. With Gabriel Desjardins in the box for goaltender interference, Michael St. Croix guided a pass ahead to Hegarty for a brief breakaway. Hegarty went forehand-to-backhand from the top of the crease to beat goaltender Anthony Peters for his 10th goal of the season, from St. Croix and Devon Krogh.

Greenville received a golden power-play opportunity at the end of the middle frame that carried over into the third period when Emerson Clark was hooked by Cameron Burt at the 19:59 mark. However, the Road Warriors were unable to produce a shot on the attack.

Instead, Luciani evened the game less than a minute later during a delayed penalty. With a 6-on-5 advantage, Bretton Cameron collected the puck in the neutral zone and sent it to the newcomer, who gained the zone a ripped a forehand wrist shot past Peters' glove at 2:24 of the third period.

After more than 22 minutes of scoreless hockey, including a five-minute, 4-on-4 overtime session, the Everblades received goals from Matt Marquardt and Desjardins in a four-round shootout. St. Croix, Chris McCarthy, Domenic Alberga and Luciani all came up empty for the Road Warriors.

The contest included one fight between Sam Noreau and Rob Florentino at 16:59 of the first period.

Greenville finished the game 1-for-4 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill. Peters (2-0-0) made 24 saves for his second professional win, both against the Warriors, while Missiaen (12-12-3) stopped 27 shots in the loss.

Florida outshot Greenville 30-26.
