Warriors Fall Short in Comeback against the Charge

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors fell to the Canton Charge 103-90 on Friday night at Kaiser Permanente Arena.

Elliot Williams paced the Warriors with a double-double, recording a team-high 19 points and 10 assists. James Michael McAdoo notched 18 points and had 8 rebounds. Dominique Sutton added 14 points and 9 rebounds, while Taylor Griffin and Sean Kilpatrick added 10 apiece.

Canton was led by Brandon Paul who had a game-high 20 points. Antoine Agudio had 18 points on a 7 of 9 shooting effort. Arinze Onuaku recorded a double-double, tallying 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Santa Cruz got off to a slow start, trailing by as much as 24 in the first quarter behind a Canton 70% shooting effort. The Warriors rallied to make a comeback, going on a 21-8 run to finish the first half, still trailing by 16 points at the start of the third period. After a tussle that resulted in a flagrant foul and a double-technical in the fourth quarter, the Warriors went on a 12-2 run that got them within 9 points of the Charge.

The late rally fell short of eclipsing the Charge, as Canton would never relinquish their hold over Santa Cruz, leading by as much as 16 points in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter. Santa Cruz was outshot by the Charge (51.9%-42.5%) and outrebounded (37-27). Santa Cruz had more points in the paint (46-38), had more second chance points (21-13), and had more fast break points (22-8). Both teams had 22 assists apiece.

The Santa Cruz Warriors will be back at Kaiser Permanente Arena tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. Pacific for the second game of the weekend double-header against the Canton Charge.
