Frazier Leads Red Claws to Major Comeback

Portland, ME- The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, heated up in the second half of Saturday night's contest against the Delaware 87ers, tying a team record with 40 points in the third quarter to erase a 17 point lead an come away with the win at the Portland Expo Building, 137-130. Tim Frazier set a new career high with 34 points on the night.

Delaware (6-10) came out firing in the first quarter, shooting 13-21 (62 %), with DJ Seeley getting the hot hand early on his way to 13 points in the quarter. The Red Claws (15-3) were paced by James Young, who was on assignment from the Boston Celtics, with seven points in the frame. The visitors took a 36-27 lead into the first break.

Maine went down by 17 midway through the second, but they were able to chip away at the lead by shooting 15-21 (72%) in the quarter, riding Frazier, Young and Chris Babb (eight points apiece) to head into the locker room trailing 69-62. Seeley had six more in the quarter and Gideon Gamble chipped in eight for Delaware.

The Red Claws used the three ball to their advantage coming out of the locker room, hitting 7-13 (53%) and 14-28 (50%) overall in the quarter. Omari Johnson and Frazier both had seven in the period to lead the Red Claws. Drew Gordon added eight for the visitors, who were held to 28 points on 44$ shooting as Maine headed into the final 12 minutes leading 102-97.

The fourth quarter was played at a frenzied pace, with Maine scoring 35 and Delaware 33. The teams were tied five times and there were four lead changes in the quarter, with Frazier exploding for 16 points, with Young adding seven and Babb adding six. Frazier was matched by Melvin Johnson, who had 16 of his own in the quarter. The Red Claws sealed the win with 17-23 free throws (74%) down the stretch.

Leading the way for the 87ers was Johnson (28). Seeley (24 points, six rebounds), Malcolm Lee (19 points, nine assists, six rebounds), Ronald Roberts (13 points, 10 rebounds), Gordon (13 points, nine rebounds, five assists) and Gamble (13) round out the Delaware players in double figures.

Frazier added 12 assists, seven rebounds and three steals to his career high 34 points. Young finished with 27. Babb (22 points, 11 rebounds), Johnson (12 points, six rebounds, five blocks), Cory Jefferson, on assignment from the Brooklyn Nets (11 points, nine rebounds, four blocks) and Jermaine Taylor (10) scored in double figures for Maine. Ralph Sampson had eight points and eight rebounds.

Maine is back in action next Friday and Saturday, with back to back games at home against the Santa Cruz Warriors. The 87ers will host the Grand Rapids Drive on Friday.
