Texas Legends News Release
CEDAR PARK, TX, (Jan. 2, 2015) - The Texas Legends finished up a three-game road trip with a hard fought win over the Austin Spurs 112-103.
Eric Griffin set the tone early for the Legends with an authoritative slam in the first seconds of the game. Austin responded but Griffin came back again to knock down a long ball giving the Legends their second advantage in less than three minutes of play. Texas went up by as many as 10 in the first, but an 11-3 run by the Spurs would cut it to a two-point game at the buzzer. The second quarter saw even more lead changes, but the Spurs hammered out six three-pointers to maintain a 53-50 lead at the half.
Damion James hit eight of his 21 points in the third to help Texas go point-for-point with the Spurs. With a three-point advantage heading into the final quarter, the Spurs came out firing. Bryce Cotton and Orlando Johnson added eight points each, but were unable to match the 52% shooting of the determined Legends. Booker Woodfox fired his way to the finish line with 14 points, shooting 4-of-6 in the final minutes to seal the Legends' victory.
Damion James led the Legends with 21 points and 13 rebounds to tally his fifth straight double-double. Justin Jackson added his first double-double with season highs of 20 points and 14 rebounds. Woodfox came off the bench to add 19 points, shooting 75% on the night.
The Spurs were powered by Cotton with 21 points AND 4 rebounds. Josh Davis had the team's only double-double of 12 points, 12 rebounds.
The Legends will return home to host the Oklahoma City Blue tonight at 7pm. The game will be broadcast live on television--KTXD47--and radio--KVCE1160--as well as on www.TexLegends.com.
