Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tennessee - The first-place Memphis Redbirds (70-41) used two three-run innings and a strong outing by Austin Warner to pick up a 7-3 win over the Sacramento River Cats (Giants) in the series finale Friday night at AutoZone Park.
The Redbirds were playing as the "Memphis Música," as part of Minor League Baseball's "Copa de la Diversión," or "Fun Cup," a season-long event series specifically designed to embrace the culture and values that resonate most with participating teams' local U.S. Hispanic/Latino communities.
Warner picked up his first-career Triple-A win in his second start, giving up just one run on eight hits in 7.0 innings. He struck out five and walked two. Sacramento got all eight hits against Warner in the first four innings of the game, with the southpaw locking in at the end of his outing and retiring the final seven River Cats he faced and 10 of the final 11.
Garcia singled in the first inning, walked in the seventh, and scored in both innings. He is now riding a 13-game hitting streak, hitting .431 (25-58) with 22 RBI, 18 runs scored, and nine home runs during the stretch. Rangel Ravelo moved his hitting streak to 10 games with a 1-4 game including a double. He is hitting .382 (13-34) with 11 runs scored during the 10 contests.
Carson Kelly hit his sixth home run of the season in the seventh inning, with the three-run shot making it 7-1 Redbirds heading into the eighth. Alex Mejia drove in a pair of runs, as did Max Schrock.
Before Sacramento got two runs in the top of the ninth, Warner, Landon Beck, and Andrew Morales had set down 12-in-a-row.
Memphis was 4-for-8 with runners in scoring position and turned two double plays.
The Redbirds' seven-game homestand continues tomorrow night at 6:35 with the start of a four-game series against the Fresno Grizzlies (Astros). For more information on single-game tickets, visit www.memphisredbirds.com.
