NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds announced today that Jesus Luzardo will make his Triple-A debut in a start against the Sacramento River Cats on Monday night at First Tennessee Park.

Luzardo, 20, is 9-4 with a 2.12 ERA (93.1 IP/22 ER) in 19 starts between Advanced-A Stockton and Double-A Midland in 2018. The left-hander has recorded 111 strikeouts and has issued only 23 walks. Opposing batters have hit .191 against him this year.

According to MLB Pipeline, Luzardo is the top prospect in the Oakland farm system, and the #12 prospect in all of baseball. Luzardo has allowed only two earned runs and 21 hits in his last 41 innings.

Luzardo was the starting pitcher for the World Team in the All-Star Futures Game and was also named a Texas League Mid-Season All-Star.

The Athletics acquired Luzardo on July 16, 2017 in a trade with the Washington Nationals. Oakland received American League All-Star Blake Treinen and current Sounds third baseman Sheldon Neuse for pitchers Sean Doolittle and Ryan Madson.

Luzardo was drafted by the Nationals in the third round of the 2016 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Stoneman Douglas (Fla.) High School.

The 2018 season is the Sounds' 41st in franchise history and fourth as the Oakland Athletics' top affiliate. Single-game tickets are available now by calling (615) 690-4487 or by visiting www.nashvillesounds.com.
