Salt Lake Bees News Release

The Salt Lake Bees used the long ball to defeat the Iowa Cubs 6-4 on Friday night.

Iowa jumped in front with three runs in the first, but Salt Lake got one run back in the second on three walks and a sacrifice fly by Alberto Triunfel. In the fourth, the inning began with Jared Walsh getting hit by a pitch and moving to third on a single by Dustin Ackley. Walsh would score on a fielder's choice by Bo Way to make it 3-2 before Joe Hudson drilled a 1-0 pitch over the left field wall for a 4-3 lead. Walsh would give the Bees a three run cushion in the eighth with a two run homer, his second long ball in as many nights.

Salt Lake starter Dylan Unsworth (6-0) gave up the three runs in the first, but he settled in after that with five shutout innings to earn the win. Miguel Almonte and Eduardo Paredes each threw a scoreless inning and Akeel Morris gave up a run in the ninth on an RBI single by former BYU star Jacob Hannemann, but induced Chris Coghlan into grounding out to end the game and record his fifth save of the season. Salt Lake wins the series two games to one and have not lost a series in Des Moines since 2002.
