Tacoma Bullpen Shines In 6-3 Loss To Oklahoma City

TACOMA, Wash. - Though their bullpen compiled another spectacular outing, the Tacoma Rainiers (53-56) fell to the Oklahoma City Dodgers (60-47) by a final score of 6-3 Thursday night at Cheney Stadium.

Right-handers Mike Morin (2.0), Justin Grimm (0.1) and Nick Rumbelow (1.0), as well as lefty Marc Rzepczynski (0.2), combined to keep the Dodgers off the board for the final four frames of the contest. The quartet of relievers allowed just three hits and struck out six Oklahoma City batters.

Second baseman Adam Law paced the Tacoma offense with a three-for-four performance Thursday night and increased his season-long average to a team-best .312. Center fielder Ian Miller (2x4, R, 2B), third baseman Seth Mejias-Brean (2x4, RBI) and right fielder Ben Gamel (1x4, R, HR, RBI, BB) also aided the Rainiers offensive effort.

Mejias-Brean's multi-hit effort extended his current hitting streak to 12 games while first baseman Daniel Vogelbach's first-inning single extended his own streak to eight straight contests with a hit.

Tacoma starter Rob Whalen (7-5) allowed five runs on just four hits across 5.0 innings Thursday night. Whalen also threw five strikeouts and 54 of his 87 total pitches for strikes.

The Rainiers and Dodgers return to action Friday night for the final game of the three-game series. Right hander Bryan Evans (3-1, 4.47) will be on the hill for Tacoma and righty Daniel Corcino (2-2, 3.44) will get the start for Oklahoma City. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
