Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

The 51s crushed three home runs, one each from shortstop Christian Colon , designated hitter Bryce Brentz and third baseman Patrick Kivlehan , while Omaha reliever Richard Lovelady continue his impressive stretch with two more scoreless innings and first baseman Frank Schwindel extended his hit streak to ten in Las Vegas' 6-3 win over the Storm Chasers on Thursday night at Werner Park.

Colon and Brentz left the yard as part of a three-run second frame to give the 51s the early advantage. After the lead increased to five in the fourth, Omaha answered back with a two-spot supported by run-scoring base hits via LF Terrance Gore and CF Billy Burns . One inning later, Schwindel clubbed his team-leading 25th double of the year prior to coming across on a force out to narrow the Storm Chasers' deficit to two. Kivlehan, however, provided the exclamation mark on Las Vegas' evening with his solo blast in the seventh.

Brentz (2-4, 2 R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI) and Kivlehan (2-3, R, HR, 2 RBI), along with CF Matt den Dekker (2-4, 2 R) and C Colton Plaia (2-4, RBI) all tallied multi-hit efforts for the 51s. Burns (2-4, RBI) was the lone Omaha batter to record two knocks in the contest. Schwindel's fifth-inning double also extended his hit streak to ten games.

Las Vegas starter Drew Gagnon (6.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) earned the win with a quality outing, with the bullpen trio of Buddy Baumann (1.0 IP, H), Tim Peterson (1.0 IP, 2 K) and Chris Beck (SV, 1.0 IP, K) combined for three shutout frames. Royals lefty Eric Skoglund (3.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 3 K) suffered the defeat in his first outing with Omaha as part of his Major League Rehab Assignment.

Lovelady (2.0 IP, H, 2 K) continued a torrid stretch on the mound, setting down six of seven batters he faced over the final two innings for the Storm Chasers. He has retired 21 of the last 22 hitters over his last four outings. Going back further, Lovelady has combined to yield a lone earned run over his last 14 appearances (27.0 IP).

Omaha and Las Vegas face off in a Friday rubber match at Werner Park, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT. The Storm Chasers are expected to send RHP Arnaldo Hernandez (2-0, 2.95) to the hill, with the 51s anticipated to give the ball to RHP Cody Martin (3-3, 6.99).
