Toledo Walleye News Release
Toledo, OH - Toledo had the upper-hand over Kalamazoo on Saturday after a tremendous overtime victory the night before. The Walleye needed to play catch up after a Wings' forward wreaked havoc on the home ice.
The division leading Wings took a commanding two goal lead by the end of the opening period, courtesy of an effective scoring line. Kalamazoo scored its first goal after a Walleye turnover in its own zone. Sal Peralta collected the loose puck and passed ahead to Matt Jones, who made the shot past Alec Richards. Then Jones scored again near the end of the period, again from a pass from Peralta, for the Walleye two goal deficit.
The second period was an absolute scoring barrage. After Jonathan Hodgman scored Toledo's first goal, JC Sawyer answered to tie the game only four seconds later. Matt Jones regained the visitor's lead by completing the hat trick before Maxime Tanguay tied it again for the Walleye. Kalamazoo would close the second with a two score cushion again with yet another goal from Matt Jones, his fourth of the game, and then Andrew Fournier.
Toledo needed another third period rally to keep the Wings winless in the season series, but a pair of goals put the game away for Kalamazoo. Matt Jones registered an assist on the Jeff Mason goal for his fifth point of the game before the Wings scored with 1.8 seconds left for the 7-3 final.
Toledo will travel to Wheeling on Sunday to face off against the Nailers at 6:30 pm. Listen to the game live with Matt Melzak on Fox Sports Radio, 1230 WCWA.
