Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Las Vegas, NV - In the finale of a three game set the Victoria Salmon Kings and Las Vegas Wranglers met at the Orleans Arena. Victoria's David Shantz got the nod in net while Las Vegas started Joel Gistedt.

Both teams had scoring chances through the first 20 minutes of the game, but neither side was able to light the lamp. It remained 0-0 at the end of the first period.

The Wranglers broke the scoreless tie early when Francis Lemieux came out from behind the Kings' net and tried to put a backhand shot in. The attempt bounced off Shantz's stick and ended up on Ryan Weston's blade and he fired it in for the 1-0 lead. Victoria would tie it up when Mike Hamilton worked his way up the left wing wall, circled out and slipped the puck to Tim Wedderburn. The defenseman had an empty lane to the net and skated a few strides in before wiring a shot top shelf over the glove of Gistedt. The teams would go to the locker rooms knotted 1-1 through 40 minutes.

Vegas would break the tie while the teams were skating 4-on-4. Francis Lemieux took advantage of a rebound on a 2-on-1 break and fired it in the Kings' net for the one goal lead. A flurry of activity in the last minute by the Kings ended up fruitless as Gistedt kept Victoria at bay. Wranglers 2 Salmon Kings 1.

Victoria went 0/40% on the power play while Las Vegas was 0/30%. The Wranglers outshot the Salmon Kings 28-26.

The Salmon Kings now travel to Ontario to face the Reign on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. Victoria returns to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre next week versus the Wranglers for a three-game set with contests on Thursday, December 10th, Friday, December 11th, and Saturday, December 12th. Puck drop for all three games is 7:05 p.m. For tickets, call 250-220-7777 or visit www.selectyourtickets.com.
